Brussels Airport ombuds service receives 95,000 noise complaints Apr 26th 2019, 08:32, by info@bxlconnect.com (TBT News) The ombuds service of Brussels Airport has received around 95,000 complaints about noise and nuisance from the airport, which is almost a third less than in 2017. "I am not happy with the drop," said the director of the ombuds service of Brussels Airport, Philippe Touwaide to BX1. "It is still the same 1,500 people who account for 94,000 of those complaints. They experience hindrance daily."
He drew up a report based on the complaints, with five recommendations to deal with and eliminate them, which he handed over to the Federal Minister for Mobility François Bellot (MR).
According to the report, the minister has to ensure that the heaviest - and most noisy- planes no longer take off or land between 20:00 and 8:00 AM. He also has to reactivate the expropriation fund, and follow up and implement legal decisions.
However, local residents are not particularly impressed with the report. Ghislaine Weissgerber, who lives in Schaarbeek and experiences daily nuisance due to the noisy flights, believes the report does not address the core of the problem and is only "fussing over details", she said to BX1.
