Belgium's newest scientific research ship will be called Belgica 2 Apr 25th 2019, 13:50, by info@bxlconnect.com (TBT News) Belgium's new scientific research vessel, planned to replace the RV Belgica after 35 years of loyal service, will be called Belgica 2, Minister in charge of Science Policy Sophie Wilmès (MR-Reformed Movement) announced Thursday to the students who had suggested the name. The federal government decided to build a new research vessel in succession of the RV Belgica in 2016.  The design contract has been given to the Spanish Freire Shipyard. The construction will begin 8 June for 28 months. The reception of the ship is scheduled for late 2020 for a total cost of 54 million euros (including VAT). The Brussels Times
